How else can we use this information?
This biomechanical knowledge about the overhead clear within badminton can be used in a variety of ways. As stated above, a longer leaver will provide greater force, although it may not provide the best tool if the main concern is accuracy (Blazevich, 2013). This knowledge can be used in regards to children or beginners leaning the sport. A high success rate will ensure enjoyment and continued practice of the sport, although a child or beginner may not find this success with an adult badminton racquet. A racquet with a shorter leaver may be useful to use for beginners, and to slowly increase leaver length as players become more experienced.
The biomechanical principles can also be used to ensure players are using the appropriate technique, to not only be successful, but to avoid injury. Players who continually use only their arm, and more specifically their forearm to produce force throughout shots may experience a overuse injury (Lees, 2003). Rather if the player used a sequentially appropriate summation of force from the legs, torso and then the arms and wrists, these type of overuse injuries can be avoided.
